What is the World Record Striped Bass?
Before we look at the world record striped bass, let’s get some perspective. Most striped bass that are caught by anglers weigh somewhere between five and ten pounds, with a length anywhere from 20 to 30 inches. A 40-pound striper-which usually approaches 45 to 50 inches–is often the fish of a lifetime for striped bass anglers.
But the world record striped bass is far beyond that measure.
According to On The Water, the world record for a striped bass is 81 pounds, 4 ounces, which was caught by Greg Myerson. This fish was caught off the coast of Westbrook, Connecticut and broke the previous record by three pounds. The previous record was held for about three decades. The angler said that it took 15 minutes to haul in the behemoth.
It should be noted that the record is based on weight. While there have been longer striped bass, this is the heaviest striper on record.
