Dear Scout Boats,

The GHRI just finished conducting the annual census of the Cayman stingrays in Grand Cayman. This year we were assisted by three vets from the Georgia Aquarium, Tonya Clauss, Lisa Hoopes and Nicole Boucha, to assess the health of the rays by taking blood samples. Edingurgh university student Louisa Gibson, Dr. Brad Wetherbee (URI) and my son Alex assisted with the project.

All the research work was conducted on my 28 foot Scout “Makaira II”.

Photo 2: (L-R) Alex Harvey, Louisa Gibson and Brad Wetherbee secure a large ray in a pool in the cockpit of the Scout while Tonya Clauss prepares to take blood from the animal.

Cheers,
Guy Harvey
