Scout Innovations: What You Can’t See

You can tell just by looking at it that Scout Boats creates exceptional boats. It has designs that are meticulously crafted by our experts. It has top-of-the-line upholstery materials that are elegant, durable, and comfortable. It has a cabin that was designed to give the driver comfort and convenience. Take one look, and it’s obvious that these are state-of-the-art fishing boats.

But what about the things you can’t see? If you were to dissect a Scout, you would find the same level of perfection that you see on the outside.

Drainage System

To make our boats more convenient, we have added plenty of features, including rod holders, cup holders, and many different openings. What happens if these little features fill with water? On some boats, the water might sit until is it cleaned out, but thanks to our innovative drainage system, the water conveniently flows down. We add tubing to everything we do, creating a plumbing system that makes your boat more enjoyable for everyone.

Whale Board Backing Plates

Behind every item attached to the deck of a boat, you need a strong, reliable backing plate. It needs to be made from a material that will hold screws tight and make sure the item will stay put for a long time. On Scout Boats, we use a material called “whale board” for our backing plates. This is a highly compressed resonated paper that holds screws tighter than aluminum, giving a nearly permanent clasp between the deck and the item. Whale board is used to back many items on our boats, including cleats, swim platforms, tee-tops, seats, and more. It’s a tough, reliable backing plate that adds to the quality and strength of a Scout.

Watertight Tabbing

In a perfect world, every boat deck would be created in one piece, giving better strength and durability due to fewer joints. However, because decks need to be molded, not everything can be created together, as different angles create difficulty when separating the piece from the mold. In our tabbing department, we connect boxes to the deck with fiberglass, creating a watertight connection and building a longer, more durable boat.

Multi-Directional Fiberglass

At Scout, we take pride in using the best possible materials to build our boats. With this in mind, we use multi-directional fiberglass for the creation of our hulls. The best vendors in the industry supply this type of fiberglass. Woven in multiple directions, our fiberglass creates a stronger, more durable boat and gives our products another quality that is hidden from sight.
